It always accommodate those related to our physical condition, and therefore our health. New and improved lifestyle habits that promote a healthier state. Unfortunately, many of them do not exceed the barrier’s purpose and are reduced to the role in which they were designed. A good quality of life involves a balanced diet, rich and varied products, fresh fruits, vegetables, we provide the necessary vitamins and amino acids. A good physical condition that is bound sport, exercising our hearts, and avoid or at least delay the onset of several diseases linked to sedentary lifestyles.

While everyone is susceptible to improve our quality of life, this is accentuated as fulfilling years, reaching an old age more active and healthy while having better habits. But perhaps in older couples when they need care, have a greater awareness of our shortcomings and try to feel better with ourselves. Old age is not synonymous with disease, poverty or social or physical. It is clear that when we meet years, we add to our health ailments, is why we must encourage, even more, our attitude to healthy activities.

One of the evils that more attacks over the years is osteoarthritis. Many people who start with fifty years experience to rheumatic disease, obesity and lack of exercise worsens the condition, so that a moderate exercise and a balanced diet will reduce the pain characteristic. From my experience as an occupational therapist always make a preliminary study of the patient, see what their habits, what you can do to improve their quality of life and the two main pillars for this improvement are food and sport.
The practice of regular physical activity in old age is one of the priorities in public health as a prevention of chronic degenerative diseases. Besides reducing cardiac risk, increase flexibility, bone density and muscle mass, but are as important as the physical benefits are psychological. Sports moderately supposed to come into contact with other people, increasing the social circle and reducing the possibility of falling into a depressing picture, so characteristic in these ages.

As already mentioned, the sport provides an increase in bone density of the individual, ie, strengthening and preventing future strokes or falls fractures due to osteoporosis. Birthday does not mean much stuck in a chair watching the days pass and the comings and goings of our family, there are many activities for this increasingly larger group. Tai Chi, yoga, group activities, strengthening self-esteem is highly recommended.
There are situations where the couple loses interest in things, is outside of social life, even thought it is a nuisance to society, that its activity is no longer part of the production gear, and that jeopardizes their illusion. On these occasions it is necessary to restore morale, encourage and make you see that you are entering another stage of life, so important and beautiful as its predecessors.

Physical health is inextricably linked to mental health, support from family, friends and professionals is vital. We must be aware that older people tend to resist further changes in their lifestyle, are more reluctant to adopt new habits, so we need to maintain a diplomatic and supportive, encouraging them to join groups and activities that promote their relationships. We see the change experienced by our grandfathers. Say that when we come to adopt a more static, sometimes we say they do not want to come, but that their children are forced. This reaction is logical and what is surprising is that after a few days is that they are tremendously grateful that I can count on us. Are related, are treated professionally and above all enjoy group activities. The idea of the cold and desolate homes and day centers are fortunately changing. Now they are welcoming places, which gives the most support necessary to face life with fortitude and above all care for our families and specific treatment methods, combining three basic concepts: health, physical activity and psychological support.
